🗓️ On This Day in History - Easy Bites

  1. February 23, 1954: The first mass inoculation of children against polio began in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Jonas Salk’s revolutionary vaccine was administered to a group of elementary school students, marking the beginning of the end for one of the most terrifying diseases of the 20th century.

  2. February 23, 1886: Chemist Charles Martin Hall finally discovered the method for producing aluminum cheaply and in large quantities. Before his discovery, aluminum was considered a precious metal, rarer and more expensive than gold!

  3. February 23, 1940: American folk singer Woody Guthrie wrote the iconic song "This Land Is Your Land" in his hotel room in New York City. He wrote it as a critical response to Irving Berlin's "God Bless America," which Guthrie felt was being overplayed on the radio.

🤯 Fun Facts of the Day

  1. Cleopatra lived closer in time to the invention of the iPhone than to the building of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The Great Pyramid was completed around 2560 BC, while Cleopatra lived until 30 BC. That’s a gap of over 2,500 years! The first iPhone was released in 2007, just a little over 2,000 years after her reign.

  2. Wombats are the only animals in the world that produce cube-shaped poop. This isn't just a quirky biological accident; the cubic shape prevents their droppings from rolling off the rocks and logs where they place them to mark their territory!
