February 24, 1868: Andrew Johnson became the first U.S. President to be impeached by the House of Representatives. He was charged with "high crimes and misdemeanors" primarily for violating the Tenure of Office Act. He was later acquitted by the Senate by just one vote.
February 24, 1582: Pope Gregory XIII issued a papal bull establishing the Gregorian calendar. This new calendar, designed to correct the accumulated error of the Julian calendar, is the one still in use across most of the world today.
